DESCRIPTION:Register for AFC’s Field Trip Docent Training Series at the Rosemont Preserve in La Crescenta! Led by local experts\, our trainings are an opportunity to become knowledgeable on the native plants\, geology\, and bird species of our region. With these skills\, you can help connect youth to nature by guiding field trips for K-12 students from all over LA County throughout the school year! \nField trips take place at Rosemont Preserve from September through June\, on Wednesday to Friday mornings\, and last approximately 1.5 hours. To participate as a docent\, volunteers should have general availability during this time frame and are asked to lead a minimum of four trips over the course of the school year. \nNative Plant Training\nWed.\, September 9\, 9:00AM-11:30AM\nLearn about our regional native plants from Kyle Cavazos\, AFC’s Program Director. AFC’s native plant training covers identifying plants\, adaptations to our climate\, and uses of plants by Indigenous communities. \nAvifauna Training\nThurs.\, September 10\, 9:00AM-11:30AM\nLearn about our local avifauna from TJ Hastings\, Occidental College Avian Biology Teaching Assistant and former AFC intern. AFC’s avifauna training teaches you about the birds commonly seen at Rosemont Preserve and dives into species identification and avian evolution. \nGeology Training\nFri.\, September 11\, 9:00AM-11:30AM\nLearn about our local geology from Doug Given\, USGS Geophysicist and PCC Geology Professor.
