Volunteers at Rubio CanyonThere’s no better way to spend National Trails Day than by helping to restore local trails. At least that’s what 36 volunteers who made their way into Rubio Canyon on Saturday, June 4, decided.

Volunteers helped clear a connecting path that will allow hikers on the Mount Lowe Railway right-of-way trail to reach the rest of the trails in the canyon. They stabilized sections of a trail that cuts across the canyon. They worked on a trail that leads to the top of AFC’s property and will eventually connect with the 13-mile Altadena Crest Trail. And they removed invasive plants that have been making their way up the canyon.

Thanks to all the volunteers, and to REI for organizing the program. Check out REI’s Facebook page for more photos.
