New Year Hike to Mount Thom

Set 2026 into motion with a hike in the Verdugo Mountains from Sunshine Preserve to Mount Thom with the Friends of Sunshine!

Mount Thom is the peak you see from the preserve with the radio towers. It’s a 5.5 mile hike with around 1,300ft elevation gain – around one hour up, one hour down, with a brunch stop at the peak around the ‘We Are All One’ rock. This hike is classed as ‘Moderate’ by AllTrails. The fire road trail is south-facing with no shade, but provides amazing views of Glendale and downtown LA the entire way – even to the ocean if the air is clear! Bring lots of water and snacks/brunch.
