Rooted in Nature: Community, Conservation, and Crafts

June 27 @ 9:00 am - 11:30 am

Join Arroyos & Foothills Conservancy for a morning focused on connecting the BIPOC community through nature! Enjoy champurrado and small bites while surrounded by the San Gabriel Mountains at Rosemont Preserve. Through discussions, crafts, and connections we’ll explore how the “Nature Gap” affects our communities.

Participants will rotate through a series of activities starting with a group discussion. We’ll then move into a creative activity making Hojalatas, a traditional Mexican tin folk art, using nature as inspiration. Lastly, we’ll work together to bring life back to retired flower beds by planting narrowleaf milkweed to help support Monarch butterflies. Together, these activities work towards environmental justice through community, crafts, and conservation.

All craft materials and outdoor blankets will be provided. No experience necessary, just come ready to learn, create, and spend time outdoors together! Please bring an outdoor chair if you prefer to sit during our community circle.

This event is offered in partnership with the California Climate Action Corps, a program of the California Volunteers, Office of the Governor.
