Become a Community Scientist

Part of AFC’s mission is to cultivate the next generation of land stewards in Southern California. We encourage public involvement in all of our scientific research, partnering with community scientists to monitor habitat and wildlife, explore potential wildlife corridors, and engage in educational outreach.

BIOBLITZES

During BioBlitz events, volunteers and participants explore our preserves, or the areas of open space we’re studying, recording and observing wildlife and plant species. We primarily utilize iNaturalist, a community science app that allows users to document and identify any living species. The data gathered by volunteers and community scientists helps us better understand which species are utilizing our preserves.

WILDLIFE SIGHTINGS

You can also help us protect local animal species by alerting us to significant wildlife sightings. This helps us collect data on existing and potential wildlife corridors.
