Join a Friends Group
Each time a property is acquired, AFC does outreach to neighbors to determine how the property can best serve the community. In each case, we’ve found community members with a passion for wildlife and open space and a willingness to help. That is how our Friends of stewardship groups began.
About the Preserve Friends Groups
Friends groups are advisory committees to AFC. They meet periodically to plan restorations and events at their Preserve and communicate their suggestions for property use and needs to AFC. AFC relies on its Friends groups to share community interests and help identify management and maintenance needs on the preserve. AFC also relies on the Friends to recruit volunteers to help with habitat restoration and fire fuel management on their properties. AFC supplies Friends groups with resources and guidance to enable each group to manage their Preserve.
In addition to leading the restoration work on our preserves, our Friends organize docent-led tours, host community education events, manage Scout projects, and organize outreach efforts in the neighborhoods surrounding their preserve.
How to Join a Friends Group
You can join a friends group by attending one of our restoration days (check out our calendar for upcoming events), signing up to volunteer, or emailing our Program Director Kyle Cavazos.
