Rubio Canyon has a rich history! Located in the Altadena foothills, it was the point of departure for riders of the historic Mount Lowe railway—a scenic extension of the Red Line system that ushered tourists and city dwellers to popular mountain resorts and attractions until its removal in 1936.

Since AFC preserved the majority of the private land in Rubio Canyon between 2009 and 2011, we’ve worked to recapture some history by restoring historic trails for public enjoyment.

Join certified naturalist Roger Patterson on a tour to better learn the history of this historic preserve!
